![]() ![]() Back when I was just ten, I’d been to the Earls Court Motor Show in London with my dad and saw a white Martini Turbo 911 which just completely blew me away. My first car was a humble Toyota Corolla 2TC but by the age of 25, Serious Clothing was doing pretty good so I bought my first Porsche 911, which was a pretty big moment for me. What is your story with cars? Your first one? And how did you get into Porsche? I started the business with just $200 but within a few years Serious Clothing was a multi-million-dollar business, with the likes of Madonna and Alice Cooper among our regulars. From there, it just evolved through a lot of very hard work and no small amount of risk and bravery, until we were a pretty big concern having articles written about the company in major publications. That took off pretty quick and we got added interest from the whole rave scene, which bought a lot of one of our signature items, the ‘cat in the hat’ oversized floppy hats. So I hired my own pitch for $10 a day and started selling one-off, modified, vintage Levi’s 501’s that I’d customised after buying them from the Salvation Army and thrift stores. I was pretty skint and searching for a purpose and focus, so after working for a few bucks on Venice Beach boardwalk for this dude selling old jeans, I thought about doing my own thing. Can you tell us a bit more about how you got into this? You designed and produced clothing for the punks and rockers of the LA music scene, and over the years your rock-fashion label Serious Clothing outfitted the likes of Alice Cooper and Madonna. I eventually made my way to Los Angeles, where I was instantly hooked by the rock and roll world of 80’s west coast rock and that whole rock and roll lifestyle. I worked a few jobs on building sites and did a brief college course but then, in 1985, I joined a project called Camp America, to work as a camp counsellor, first in Detroit, then New Jersey. I didn’t enjoy school and came away with only two exam qualifications at 15. I grew up in Sheffield, in the north of England during the 80’s which was a pretty grim time with heavy unemployment and social problems. Where did you grow up? What did you study? What led you to America/the rock scene of LA/the Porsche community? Magnus wears the Cavendish shoe from our DM’s Lite collection. Like my Instagram profile says, I’m a man with a beard, a car builder, collector and driver … with a passion for life. His recent autobiography has become a best-seller and captures the story of a man who rejects convention as a way of life.įor those who don’t know Magnus Walker, how would you sum yourself up in one sentence? However, his story is much more than that of a car fanatic it’s a compelling tale of succeeding through pure instinct, a potent combination of inspiration and graft by a man who is the epitome of anti-establishment. Magnus Walker, aka the Urban Outlaw, is a six-foot, heavily tattoo-ed one-off clad in greaser clothing reminiscent of early 80’s metal bands, Walker is in fact a hugely successful businessman, an in-demand motivational speaker and the world’s premier modifier of Porsche 911s. ![]()
